Saint Gobain provides bottled water to more than 700 Southern New Hampshire private well owners…

New Hampshire Safe Water Alliance created a map using publicly available data for southern New Hampshire where Saint Gobain has polluted 100s of square miles of aquifer with their airborne emissions of 100s of PFAs chemicals. This map was created after NHSWA Co-Founder, Mindi Messmer, identified that the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services had not been requiring Saint Gobain to notify people living within 500 feet of another contaminated well. We created this tool to help people see if PFAS-contaminated wells may be in the vicinity of their homes.

NH Safe Water Alliance seeks to join NH’s fight against 3M

Our State Toxicologist wouldn’t drink the water with 3M chemicals (#PFAS) above the New Hampshire legal level.

But, 3M is suing New Hampshire so they can keep making $1 BILLION DOLLARS so they can keep poisoning our children with their chemicals.

NH FISH & GAME DEER SAMPLE RESULTS, NEWINGTON, NH

The NH Fish and Game sampled 16 deer for #PFAS in Newington, NH. The sampling happened as a result of consistent advocacy by residents of Newington and Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) members' requests for the last few years. The advocacy was valid due to concerns about hunting and very high levels of PFAS detected in all surface water on Newington. Hunters take deer and stuff their freezers with venison. See results below.

Safe Bottled Water: NH lawmaker presses for testing.

HB 1632 failed in the NH House. NHDES quietly tested bottled water company water for #PFAS after my bill failed in the NH House. Here’s a link to the story about the bill. As a result, a bottled water company in Haverhill, MA quickly shut down. Results of their testing below.

Arsenic in your well?

Arsenic is naturally occurring in groundwater in NH. That doesn’t mean its safe to drink. We have known for centuries that arsenic is a poison and we know arsenic exposure is connected to bladder and lung cancer among other chronic diseases. It also has a concerning impact on children. Arsenic is colorless and odorless so you can’t easily tell that it’s in your water. The test for arsenic is only $15 and well worth the expense.

NHSWA, Testing for Pease, and EWG sponsor “Dark Waters” screening.

We had a packed house for the special screening of Dark Waters on December 13th. Senator Jeanne Shaheen provided a video introduction to our panel discussion with Congressman Chris Pappas, New Hampshire Safe Water Alliance Co-Founder, Mindi Messmer and Testing for Pease Co-Founder Andrea Amico. Thank you EWG for making this event possible!

Aquarion Customer Survey

Boil Water Contamination Event, August 2019.

We surveyed people about the recent contamination event where a boil water order was issued by the NH Department of Environmental Services in response to E. Coli contamination. We wanted to know how people found about it and when and how they felt about the event. This information has been provided to each of the select boards and the State of NH Department of Environmental Services. Click here to read the full report and the survey answers.

Bill signed to compel NHDES to take action when EPA fails us.

“I think the state is starting to move aggressively on protecting the public from the dangers of PFAS,” Cushing said. “The lawsuit the state filed against polluters, the fact DES adopted some of the strictest standards for PFAS in the country, just shows public opinion is with protecting our drinking water.” ~ New Hampshire Safe Water Alliance Co-Founder, NH House Representative Renny Cushing, D-Hampton

What are PFAS Toxins?

PFAS are a group of artificial chemicals found in various everyday products including but not limited to: food packaging, stain removers, and nonstick and water repellent fabrics. They are also used commonly in firefighting foam at airports. Exposure to certain PFAS chemicals can lead to numerous health effects including cancer. PFAS contaminates groundwater near airports and factories using PFAS chemicals.

Demand Action!

SIGN PETITION calling on NH DHHS and Governor Sununu for a REAL Investigation: NH lost another young person to rhabdomyosarcoma. The face of cancer is hard to see but it's a reality in NH. He was in his mid 20s. This person lived in an area where there is also PFAS contaminated water like in the 5-town area of the seacoast where we have a rhabdomyosarcoma cancer cluster. We have lost people young and old to this devastating disease. There is no known connection to any environmental issue right now.

We must do whatever we can to find the cause. Please join us by signing this petition to request a full inquiry into cancer in our state.
